I was happily going about my day yesterday tromping around at the Winnie Trade Days when I got a call from Gabe, my oldest.
We chatted a bit and as I was getting off the phone he said, " Oh, by the way, you do know what today is,right? I scrambled my brain quickly but came up empty- ( I know- you aren't surprised!) .
"No, what?"
"Well mom, Kalleigh is a year old today!" he said cheerfully.
My heart just hurt! I could not believe that it was not anywhere in my memory to be remembered!!!
How can that be????????As far as I know this is a first.
I have to admit that I looked on my calendar all week last week for something that I thought I was supposed to remember but it was empty- no baby girl birthday was even marked!!! At least then I could have soothed my heart with the "its been crazy busy and I just didnt get the card or gift in the mail" thing but BLANK!!!!!!
COMPLETELY BLANK!!!!!!!!
I remember the day she was born .......and now I know WHY the calendar was blank....Hurricane Ike was barrelling in that same night and into the morning when she arrived. For weeks afterward the busy of cleaning up took my attention and the date of her birthday was lost in the shuffle!
That doesn't make me feel one bit better- but at least I know I'm not totally losing it.... right?
Still I feel sad........

LOL~ I'm thinking that comes with having so many grandchildren! Quit beating yourself up!! Parents,Kids, kids spouses, grandchildren....enough to make anyone crazy remembering dates~What a doll she is and named after her beautiful Granny. :)
Oh...well, I can see I need to mail you some of my blank index cards!!! heehehee..they are my lifeline..if I don't write down all that's important or that I need to do...well, forget it!!! It's not happening..LOL
Hurricanes can leave your mind washed away..so that's good enough reason for the blank. :0)

You are NOT losing it!! That was a hectic time, so something had to be left out temporarily!! She will be on that calendar now though and nothing will take this date out of your memory!! LOL
Don't feel so bad. It was such a difficult time and there was a lot going on. It happens. I find that I have a harder and harder time remembering dates.
