Time warps explained!!!!!!

***The song "Remember When" goes perfectly with this post- scroll to the bottom and click to play it as you read this*******
I learned something today while my husband and I were out roaming on the bike! I learned what time warps are!

This morning over coffee my sweetheart informed me that we were going on a bike ride and picnic today. I was ecstatic,of course!
After packing a few sandwiches and snacks we arranged Luke's ride to work and we were off for the day! It was cloudy and storms appeared to be south of us , exactly where we were heading- but just like in our youth we ignored the weather and drove south
We decided to ride out to the "old home place" where he grew up and where we'd spent our lives as reckless youths at rodeos, rope ponds, bayous and dirt roads! The place where we first met- and where we all hung out-Choupique!
As we neared hwy 108,the crossroads to our "other world" it seemed as though long silent memories jumped to life!
We passed the house that my brother and his wife shared when their babies were born- it was an ugly blue house but I could still see his old car parked right in front and Lindy was toddling in the front yard.....
Next was the house where a man was killed in an auger when he missed church one Sunday to finish some field work...such a sad thing....... then we passed Renee's house- the place we hung out for good times- before the guys were on the scene Renee and I camped out in the yard...actually ended up in the car cause the mosquitoes were so bad ...then I could see Bub(my hubby) pulling up in her driveway as we got off the bus from school...... the silly parties we had ...parents in attendance and fun music and games late into the night....then we passed the Ogeas- Robert was a bully..... Carol was sweet...I'd had a crush on Mark in 7th grade..... Glenn is a taxidermist...we saw Hardy and Minnie's place where all the boys sold hides...
There it is...the "old home place"...softball,school bus...Homer,the bus driver...tobacco spit.... Sunday dinners...... hot wiring Jacks truck...Clara the coon......dirt bikes.......so many things happened right here..in this spot.......
and all those things were still there- I could feel and smell them as we touched each spot..... I KNOW it was a time warp because I can't remember those things unless I pass through those places! :) They stay there waiting to relived and enjoyed....or remembered and wept over...again.
They are there and they are real....
We drove on and saw the field where Mr Stine had fired Bub for taking a break...my friend Jerry's house ..it was the finest house anywhere around- they were big time ranchers...the place where I saw the first microwave oven in my life!!!!! We turned the corner past her home to the shanty row where the tenement workers lived...then past the horse trainer Ray's place...past the quarter horse run ...under the oaks and finally the bayou....camping,fires, late night adventures, big stories ....... and I wondered if Renee and Darrell would be at the bridge...who else would be there....my yellow and orange polka dot bikini(What can I say- it was the 70's and I had no idea!!!)..my mom, and Renee's mom sitting in folding chairs laughing at all of us as we jumped off the bridge into the bayou....as we drove past I could see them all..smiling and waving and glad we'd come back for a visit!
The swamp was just the same...it smelled the same.....lots of other things change but this road...the swamp...the bayou....the sky and wind....they are the same and in them is warped all the fun, sadness and happiness ..even the silly and stupid things that happened out there....
... go back and visit an old spot where lots of life happened ... but don't stay in the car...get out...stop and listen and smell times gone by....breathe deep and wait......you'll be glad!!!!

Short picture tour...
The ONLY store in Holly Beach......Two hits in 3 years left this little town devastated....
They didn't lose their sense of humor!!! ...or their will to rebuild....twice!!!!

They're open...but no body's there!!!!

Store front...:) downtown Holly Beach..

The Gulf view from the store....

I'm sure there aren't a lot of places where ragged old trailers are up on stilts....are there?

And the shrimp boats just have to be in the tour- someday I'm gonna paint them.

That little yellow sign is an ALLIGATOR CROSSING sign- there's no humor in it either- saw one hit on the road(I didn't think a picture of the carnage was appropriate) :)
TEXAS JUST HAS ARMADILLOS AS ROAD KILL- WE HAVE GATORS!!!!!

Next stop-Kansas!!!!

I simply can't express how good it was to finally hold my little namesake in my arms!!!!!! It's so difficult to not see your child for 2 years- let alone see your 9th grandbaby(or any other for that matter) until she's 9 months old!!!
She has,as you can see, the cutest little fountain-hair and her spirit is sweet and quiet. She's a happy contented girl!!!

Her sweet sister Kaydence is just as sweet!!! It was unreal to see how mature and helpful KK is with both her siblings. I just kept feeling like she was "an old soul" in a tiny body- so serious and yet so tender. Truly a sweet heart!!!
The men spent most of the day cooking a brisket and talking about EVERYTHING!!!!! Of course they took their appointed naps!!!! Kim and the kids took me to the local Arboretum- it was breathtaking!!! We had a wonderful time together!(I know I have the two most wonderful daughter-in-laws in the whole world!!!!)
I just love this picture of Kaydence- just looking at the waterfall and quietly drinking it in.

When we returned from our adventure the brisket was finally ready! Oh my goodness it was good!!! And it was so good to share a meal with my sweet boy and his sweet family.

The ever watchful Kaydence- she dotes on her sweet brother.

This blanket that Aidan is sitting on is so cool- it's weighted!
Aidan is autistic and something that calms him is this blanket- it's flannel with weighted squares- inside the squares are little bean bag pellets. As soon as Kim showed it to me I could see & feel why it comforted him- I LOVE IT!!!! I'll try to get a picture edited and put up a how to or a link to instructions on making one.

It was a teary departure but I was filled to overflowing having seen my kids so happy and settled where they are.

“Being a mother is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
Every time I start to write about our vacation and how great the kids are all doing I just sit and stare off into space. I look at the pictures over and over and relive the moments, trying to seal them even more in my mind, if that were possible.
Then I start thinking of the kids that are here and wondering how it must feel for them to be all grown up and watching us grow older. I feel sorry for them cause they have to put up with the trials of duty to the old folks(not just us but the grandparents that are here) and balance their lives under our watchful eye!!!:) it must drive them crazy!!!!
Then my heart is just so full because I can say that I am truly proud of all 5 of my kids and their spouses- and I am equally proud of my teenager! How can that be???
How can such diverse people come from one home environment and yet be so very different???
How can they have such different lives and yet be so pleasing to me?
How can I exist with so very much of my heart “walking around outside my body”?

The end of the road.......

I don't remember how many miles we traveled but it was around 3000 +....and in only 9 days!!!

It was a wonderful trip with little or no difficulty. How can you ask for more!!!!!

The guys did most of the driving and I enjoyed the scenery and stayed busy stitching in the backseat!!! :)

Our travels took us through Texas,Oklahoma,Kansas,Missouri,Illinois,Indiana,Kentucky,Tenneessee and Mississippi- and we saw plenty of interesting things in each place!

Vacation posting resumed!!!!

Ok all the reflective thinking behind me now...I can move on to the rest of the vacation...finally!!!

After leaving Lubbock we travelled to Branson Missouri and went to Silver Dollar City.

It was such fun!!! I realized how many really young families were there with babies and toddlers and decided that we had not missed a thing by waiting to take a teenager! He had a blast and so did we and we didn't have to push a stroller or find the potty for him! :)Silly, huh? Remember Edith Anne??And yes- I rode my first ever roller coaster!!!!! It was frighteningly fun!!!!!! Luke rode it 3 or 4 times- kinda wish I would have joined him again but it took a while for the dizziness to wear off.

Coffins made to Order..just a little pre-planning while we vacation!!!!
The crooked house was lots of fun!!!!!!

We didn't see this sign till we came OUT!!!!
Thankfully, last years vertigo didn't return!!!!

Stay tuned for the next part of the journey and some great pics of my oldest son and his family!!!

Vacation tour!!!!! (PSST! This is where you skip if ya hate vacation pics)

Tonight the vacation officially ends! Tomorrow we start the old routine all over again- but refreshed and happy! Happy to have seen our kids(big and small!) and hugged and snuggled our sweet grandbabies- some for the first time!!!

So I figure it's time to bore you with details and lots of pictures from our wonderful 2 week vacation!

If you hate that kind of thing- click that little x in the right hand corner of your screen!!!!

*************************************************************

This was the first real sign that we had escaped our bubble of familiarity-windmills!! They are ENORMOUS!!!!!!!!! They covered the landscape as we approached Lubbock and I was mesmerized!!!!

We arrived in Lubbock late in the evening and were able to visit with Justin about an hour or so before he had to go to work. The 12 hour drive shows in our eyes!!!! After a good nights sleep we were all raring to go ....and thats exactly what we did!!!

I enjoyed making button bracelets for Lexi,Jenna and Andie.....of course they helped! They are good helpers for their momma too, as you can see.

The guys did guy things.....I dunno- just guy things...riding around in the squad car, sleeping, showing scars...you know just guy things!

The girls and I painted with watercolors in the backyard......

Played games.........

We met new friends and tried new recipes....(Check out Ashleigh's recipe for Chai Tea coming soon !)

And Lexi's recipe for DIPPED ANIMAL CRACKERS!!!! I see a Food Network star rising!!!!!

Lexi told me she had just thought of a great recipe and I told her we needed to pick up the ingredients and make them right away! A granny has to take every chance to make a memory when ya live so far away! We had such fun with this one!!!

LEXI'S Animal Crackers

1 Bag animal crackers
1 bag of crushed peppermint candy
1 cup of dipping chocolate

Dip each cracker in chocolate and then roll in crushed peppermint.

Try not to eat them as you dip!!!!!
YUMMY and fun as well as very happy and festive!!!

Good job Lex!!!

We crammed so much into 2 days- lets see... Lacey,Ashleigh and I went shopping and enjoyed a Java chiller at Sonic, the kids(including Luke) played in the water, we met Justin &Lacey's church family, enjoyed their Sunday nite friends get-together , ate ice cream ,stayed up too late, and it was a fun start to our travels!!!!!!

Happy days!!!!!

It's been a great couple of days!lWe've covered lots of miles and they have all been good. Good weather, scenery, and especially the "reunions".

We enjoyed several days in Lubbock playing, eating ice cream and visiting.
There is still SOOOOO much to share but it will have to wait- I'm actually living it faster than I can write about it!!!!

We're keeping this trip simple too- not eating out a lot. We have been trying to carry the simple things from vacations of yester-year. Chips, bread, bologna and snack foods and plain old water!!!!!

Family fun vacation....at HOME!
