Random thoughts....

Tonight was kinda interesting...Luke and I went to the Mistletoe &  Moss show at the civic center for the opening celebration. I forgot how these dress up events went.
Beautiful decor'...I mean tasteful, classy and well suited to the items offered by the vendors participating- good music and catered hor'derves sprinkled throughout the show.

Most of the women were in black dresses with glitter, sequins, lots of fur and glittery jewels!!

OOOOH-LAH-LAH! The men had on suits, ties and expensive shoes.
No kids were there.

Folks were sipping fine wine from tiny cups and nibbling delectable snacks from fancy trays....I saw a number of folks I knew  and enjoyed visiting with each of them...but I didn't belong. I remember these kinds of events from childhood...of course mostly from a slight distance, because as I said earlier- children were not a part of the party.
My dad led us (and hoped we'd choose and follow) toward the path of culture, elegance and civility- but it didn't appeal to me then.... and I am happy to report that 35 years later... I have no regrets.

I didn't feel inferior as I stood visiting with a young lady half my age as she sipped her wine in her black dress and stiletto heels ,wrapped in her fur cape. She's my neighbor and we talked about her new home, her family.... just plain visiting.
Maybe I should have since I was adorned :) in my linen bloomers with tea stained blouse and my fur lined flat boots.
Anyway, I was thinking that I must truly be happy with my simple country life(sprinkled with flair), to  be able to attend this affair comfortably.
Now don't get me wrong- I did dress up a bit... but it was casual wear for the folks there.
I don't think they minded a bit! I know I didn't.

I saw lots of pretty things and enjoyed shopping- and I'm glad I went...but give me... "land spreadin' out so far and wide......take Manhatten just give me that countryside" anyday!!!!

Then I visited a website http://magnoliapearlblog.blogspot.com/ and saw this quote ~
"Flowers are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world" ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

With that being said, we should take our cue from flowers and just "be" beautiful.....
"Dress up to feed the chickens!" I want to be a woman of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity like the strong women in my family. It doesn't come to me as easily but I'm giving it my best shot!
Love to all of you,
Pearl
That "Dress up to feed the chickens" got my attention!!!!
 Good thinking Pearl!!!
Think I'll do just that and enjoy the simple  beauty of the life I have right here.
Hopefully I'm cultivating the right qualities to carry me through as my youth fades......

"Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode of conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude, and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful." - Unknown

Although I have never seen you in person, I know that you are a beautiful woman...through and through!!! There is something very liberating at this age to not care what others think....to be true to ourselves. Cheers (and hugs) to you!!!

It's great to just be yourself no matter what others around you may be doing. I am much more into the simple life but sometimes I think of what it would be like to take a walk on the other side of the fence.
