Tying up loose ends....again!!!

I think I have more loose ends than anyone in the entire world!!!
Here I am, just a few days before vacation and I decide it's time to make soap!!!

Now I simply MUST get this done before I get us ready for vacation...even though I have a baby quilt to finish, an overdue wedding quilt and lots of other ideas just overflowing from my brain!!!

Sometimes I feel like I may explode from sheer excitement at finally getting to learn and do some things that I have never had time for before now!

How will I ever get the last year of home-schooling done if I keep adding threads and loose ends to my life?????

Back to those loose ends- Heather and I got an early start on soapmaking .

We were both a little unsure of the process but we muddled through ,made a big mess and had a great time. We also decided we were hooked on soapmaking! It was far easier than the research to prepare us and it appears to have come out right!

We'll unmold it tomorrow. It should take several weeks to cure before we know for sure if we did it all right! I'm so glad we tried it- even if I should have been finishing other things !!!!

( Don't worry, girls- the wedding quilt and baby quilt are next in line!)

A good friend and mentor in the arts shared her soapmaking supplies with us and boy did that make it a bit less intimidating!!! Thanks Helen!!! (See Helen's beautiful Lampwork and other art here~ http://helensharvest.com/ )

I wanted to show you a top that I ReMaDe-it was a simple linen top from walmart(I got it at the thrift store for 50 cents. I think it was meant to be a mini dress- but my knees will never see those days again!!!)

I stitched an old crocheted collar to the top and paired it with some bloomers I made last week.

What do you think? I LOVE this style- but it's not for everyone. My daughters keep reminding me of that!!! :)

OK no more starting projects BEFORE vacation!!! I gotta get ready to go see my kids!!!!

What's it called..... crafting diarrhea..? ROFL! When you just can't stop? Wait until you get back home and start using your own homemade soap!! Then crafting your own recipes and swirling colors and becoming a "FO HO" (fragrance oil ho~lol) There are so many different oils with so many different properties and combinations for you to create~you really become a mad scientist~that's why there is so much preparation to soapmaking, because it's like a chemistry lab and you need to understand what it is you are combining and for what reasons. The actual process isn't difficult, it's understanding and developing your own recipes to make the product all yours (and safe). That's why I encourage you to join a soap forum~because next will be other B&B products........yes, a dangerous but very fragrant and luscious addiction....and yes, can get expensive but so does going to BBW to buy it readymade. Have a glorious vacation!!! hugs, B

Autumn,

Your soap making effort looks like silk flowing into that mold. :0) I know it's gonna be so good!

Bloomers....maybe that's what I need to make myself. I'm only 5'1" and I seem to HATE how everything looks on me these days. I like my long tunics and rayon caftans so I think the bloomers would be good with them..maybe some out of a rayon batik??? Did you use the MJ pattern? or is it one of your own making?

You have a great time visiting your children. Thanks so much for stopping by to wish me a happy birthday. It's been a very busy but productive day..Life is good!!

Hugs, Steph

Hi Autumn,
I hope you have a wonderful vacation. Your soap looks great! My husband said NO more hobbies for Dawn! How mean???? I think I would enjoy it so much. But too many things already to do and learn... I will enjoy hearing how it is going for you. I hadn't talked to you in some time. I wanted to let you know that my Granddaughter was at Bible camp for the past two weeks and she decided to be baptized. So we now have a new sister in Christ. I just wanted to share that.... I hope all goes well for you while you are gone. Enjoy your life! It goes by way to fast! Dawn Dutton

The soap looks wonderful. It's something I've always wanted to try. I love your outfit. It's adorable. I know that when I wear my one pair of bloomers my daughter wants to die and not be in public with me. She says she's going to send me to the show-What Not To Wear. LOL~ I think they're so cute.
