Picklin' Time!!!!

PLEASE give this a try!!!! It's really easy and you'll be glad you did!!! PROMISE!!!

Start by selecting your cucumbers-  I used 8 medium ones and made 4 pint jars of pickles.

Next you'll need a large pot of boiling water- (the water should cover the jars when full)Put empty jars and lids into the boiling water while you prepare the cucumbers and seasonings.

USING CLEAN sterilized jars, lids and utensils is IMPORTANT!!

While the jars are sterilizing in the pot, slice the cucumbers into spears, chunks or a variety of the two that will fit snugly into the jars. (I used pint jars)

To make things easy you can use a prepared seasoning packet for your pickles- MRS.WAGES is sold at Wal Mart and Kroger and is very good.

You simply add vinegar and water and to the mix packet and bring it to a boil.Once the cucumbers are snug inside the jars pour the hot vinegar mixture over them leaving about 1/4 inch space .Wipe the rim so the jar will seal well, and tighten the ring just snug enough to be secure.

Now it's time to take a bath-a hot water bath! Carefully lower each jar into the boiling water being careful not to bump them against one another. Put the lid on the pot and let it boil ,with the jars inside for 15 minutes.

Carefully remove the jars and allow to cool on the counter .  You may hear the seal "pop" as the jars cool-that's a good thing!

Now it's time to pat yourself on the back for learning one more thing!!! 100_5791

Beautiful! Did you grow the cucumbers yourself? Thanks for the step by step instructions. I am assuming they are dill? Bread & Butter? Sorry, more of a question than comment. Liz
