Vestibulopathy- a new vocabulary word!!!!

As many of you know, my husband has been plagued with vertigo for several weeks now. On Thursday he was tested by a neurologist for different types/causes of the dizziness. It was a really high tech test and I was amazed at the info the technician was able to give us.

I won't bore you with all of it but I will tell you that she said vertigo was rated on a scale of 1-5, 5 being severe, and  his score was 8!!!! Disabling;but we knew that. He's been stumbling around ever since the Tuesday after Labor Day.

In short the calcium crystals in his inner ear are floating around  aimlessly when they shouldn't be. http://www.neurologychannel.com/vertigo/index.shtml

There is a simple procedure called the EPLEY Maneuver that relocates these crystals to their proper place, and relieves the vertigo. He had this done yesterday and will be in a neck brace for 48 hours- before we know if it was completely successful. I think he will have another round of testing to be certain that all the crystals are repositioned properly. Meanwhile he must remain upright ,even when sleeping(he has to sleep in the recliner sitting up) until Sunday afternoon. Then for a week he must sleep only on his right side-

Don't ask me why because I asked so many questions at the dr's office that I was afraid they thought I was crazy!!! I didn't ask why!!! Anyway, it has been pretty funny so far.

He can't bend over to put on socks, tie shoes or pick things up. Also cannot nod or look down- do you know how often we need to look down?

So  now you all have a new word for the day!! I'll be sure and snap pictures of the funny weekend!I have to say it's better thatn prepping for a hurricane again! We even had dinner delivered to us last night!!!! Thanks Bekah!
