Mini Apple Pies~ Step by Step

APPLE TURNOVERS


 

  • Start with some yummy apples- about 6 cups, peeled and sliced.

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 3/4 cup pecans(optional)

  • 3 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice

  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch

  • Combine all ingredients in a heavy pot-mine is an iron skillet(deep) - and cook on medium about 10-15 minutes until apples are tender;set aside to cool

  • Next you prepare a pastry crust

  • 1 1/4 cup flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/3 cup shortening

  • 3-4 tablespoons cold water

  • Mix the shortening into the flour & salt  with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly; add the cold water and stir until the dough clings together to form a ball.

  • Roll out circles of dough and put cooled filling in center

  • Fold circle over filling and crimp edges . For a pretty crust mix an egg white & teaspoon of water together and paint over each turnover before baking

  • Bake on greased cookie sheet at 425 until crust is nicely browned ; sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar and enjoy with a cold glass of milk!!!!
