Sourdough Bread!

After a few mess-ups I finally got it right!!!!!

I had to slow down and pay attention to the details and wait a bit for each step along the way-something I should be better at!
Well, it paid off this time and I got 3 beautiful and tasty loaves for my effort!!!!

I have been trying different recipes using sourdough and have been pleased with each of them so far.
About my only concern is the fact that we eat far less bread than most of the recipes yield so I will be working on downsizing the quantities. Also I'd like to try whole grains.
I even added the sourdough starter to Banana muffins on Friday and they were wonderful!!!!

You've given me hope to start over with sourdough. I tried one and just didn't get the rise I wanted with it. I'm going to give it a go again. Yours looks lovely!

Jami-
Sourdough is much different than the commercial yeast breads.
I had to really pay attention to the time and process rather than"winging it" like I normally do with yeast breads.

The English Muffins were simply wonderful!!
The loaf bread was great too-we just dont eat a lot of sliced bread so making a huge batch is a waste for us.
Give it a go- my first batch was AWFUL!!! I used the "brick bread " for bread pudding!!!!

Autumn,
You can freeze the bread. When I make my sourdough I always freeze one loaf for another day.

Yeah- it just doesn't taste the same - maybe the smell of it baking is what's really missing.

Try the english muffins,Kimberly- they are sooo good!!!

Your bread is award winning! Wow. Mine are still experiments, but I am going to keep trying because it is so much fun.

I had the brick scenario too. Did you use organic flour for your starter? This seems to be a must. Jami

Jami- Nope-I used plain old white(gasp) all purpose from the grocery store-also used tap water.
